I cannot believe I am writing this, but La La Land Records has actually done the impossible and will be releasing the complete scores of the Star Trek Original Series as a 15-disc CD set later this year. If you go to their website, you can register your interest, which is not a pre-order but simply a way for them to gauge how large of a limited edition this is going to be. There's also a link to a YouTube video about the set. According to them, this set will include all of the music recorded for the original series, including hours of material not released before. They are saying that in addition to the full scores being released, there are also additional tracks that weren't used in episodes - which sounds like more ideas like the alternate credits for "Where No Man Has Gone Before" or the unused opening fanfare for "Amok Time". In the YouTube video, they specifically say that this release includes things like the 3rd season scores, which had never been released before, other than as re-recordings. Samples are played from multiple eps including "Corbomite Manuever", "Doomsday Machine", "The Empath", "Elaan of Troyus" and others. This is a huge release, and one I'll be happy to grab on day one. I've been waiting for this music for too long. |

This looks to have been a Herculean effort. It is said that the set should be around $200, which seems reasonable. It's not really the kind of music I'm enthusiastic about from what I know (I haven't watched much of the show and am far from being a Trekkie), but I do like La-La Land's commitment to big projects like this. It should be a very good seller. |

What a great release. Have to start saving now.  Watched the online promo material for the release. That was fun, seeing the LLLR gang, Lukas from FSM, and many others. Two other series I watched as a kid (first run I might add) were Wild Wild West and Mission Impossible. How about some box sets for that? Intrada? Regardless, I am sure Intrada has something huge up their sleeve for the final few months of this year. Carry on. What a fantastic year for collectors. Just amazing. |
