INTRADA Announces: THE QUILLER MEMORANDUM Music Composed and Conducted by JOHN BARRY INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 201 John Barry's classic 1966 score to The Quiller Memorandum finally returns to print after being absent and elusive for many years. The original 1967 Columbia Records soundtrack LP was reissued on CD by Varèse Sarabande in 1988, but has been long out of print -- in fact the LP is easier to find than the CD. The score features a moody and atmospheric John Barry effort in his distinctive '60s style. Barry composed a main theme that was almost childlike in its simplicity. “It was a kind of simple waltz melody which went against the picture,” the composer recalled, and he subjected it to a number of interesting variations and arrangements throughout the picture. Starring George Segal, Max Von Sydow, and Alec Guinness, The Quiller Memorandum tells a provocative story of the recent up-cropping of neo-Nazism in Germany, and of the British and American agents who work to uncover it in cooperation with the West German government. INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 201 Retail Price: $19.99 Available Now For track listing and sound samples, please visit http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7635/.f |

Sounds pristine. Thanks for making this available again. If possible, it would be wonderful if you could reissue Jagged Edge as well. |

Thanks guys, though I would like to add: quite unofficial. I just said to Geoff, hey, since Intrada have released Quiller, why don't we write an article that covers what we know about the film, the music and the album? So we did. I hope it augments everyone's enjoyment and I also hope it persuades a few new people to try the score. Cheers |

Seeing the Fox label on the CD release one would think it isn't too difficult to find out if there's any additional material out there? Also, since Intrada seems to be doing major work with Sony these days (Quiller, Hatari!, Charade - many thanks for all these gems!), I wonder if this increases the chances for the Rosenman/James Dean scores. Also, would a two disk set of all the Barry album and single tracks from the 1960s be a possibility? I know this would be kind of a new project for Intrada, but previous releases still omitted tracks. Maybe Intrada can step in to the help... |
