By popular demand, Intrada has re-issued the expanded edition of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, featuring Jerry Goldsmith's colorful and exciting score. As a follow on to his masterpiece score to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, this score takes off where his first score left off. While The Motion Picture allowed Goldsmith to establish themes that would become rooted in the Star Trek franchise, that film required a score of atmosphere and awe -- focusing on the mystery, grandeur, and beauty of space. For Star Trek V, high-adventure was the order of the day, requiring a colorful, exciting, action-packed score.

In 2010 La-La Land Records released a long-awaited 2CD expanded edition of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Their 5,000-copy limited edition sold out in months. While other expanded Star Trek albums were not limited and remain in print, this rapid sellout created a hole in the catalog, so Intrada has decided to put it back in print. The CD program is identical to the already perfect presentation created by La-La Land Records, although packaging has been updated to fit in with the design of the Star Trek II, III, IV and VI packages.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) was the penultimate film to star the original cast of Star Trek. After Leonard Nimoy (Spock) directed the third and fourth entries in the series, Paramount Pictures awarded Star Trek V to William Shatner (Kirk), whose story input resulted in an action-adventure exploring religious fanaticism, the human yearning for God, and the familial nature of Kirk, Spock and McCoy (DeForest Kelley)­with touches of humor inspired by the commercial success of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986).

Okay, then. Awesome to see this one back in print. I have the LLL version but to any of you who are buying this for the first time, I hope you enjoy it!

My, what interesting times we live in. We went from "Sorry, we're not licensing this" to "Yeah, we want to keep this in print so can you release it?" in just three years.

It's a new variation. I recall the studio wanted "Stripes" on CD (I think it coincided with a DVD), so Varese did it.

Congratulations -- to Doug in particular, who got to hear some of this music as it was being recorded! What a score!!

Anyone who doesn't have this yet should snap it up immediately. It's a religious experience, as far as I'm concerned.

I think this score is every bit as wonderful as Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Star Trek V, is one of my favourite sci-fi scores ever,
one of my favourite Goldsmith scores ever - along with The Motion Picture, and Supergirl, and Total Recall,
and one of my favourite scores of all-time - full stop!.

It's fair to say, that I quite like this score!.

To be honest i've not seen this movie or any of the other Star Treks, not really much of a Trekkie.
But Goldsmith I do love so this is a first for me.
And who knows this may make me boldly go where no soundtrack has gone before.

After trying to get the one from LLL via ebay (I tried 4 times and not successfully) and going for up to 90$ I am extremly happy Intrada is re-releasing the Score for Star Trek V. Thank god I didn't get it in the bidding warzone (I stopped at 65-70 dollars).

AND the spines match! with ST II-VI.

Where do I put this one in? In the Goldsmith section or in the Star Trek section? Since the spines match so nicely probably in the ST section......luxury problems

Holy Grails: PSYIII/ESC TO ATHENA/M'RAKER/WILD GEESE II/NIGHTGEN

I had not missed the opportunity to grab it when LLL did the limited edition, but I find extremely cool that Paramount wants it to be kept in print ! Seems like we now have the coolest guys ever in music departments at Paramount, Disney, etc.

That's probably a silly question, but... is there any possibility to buy the artwork only? it looks nicer than the LLL version, but I'm not really in the mood to pay $25 plus shipping just for that.

I agree with Jay & Borgtex - I am shamed, and even though my scores are filed
by composer, and the odds I'd have all the Trek albums together to admire the
matching spines....I'd still like to have it:) Wow, we are a sick bunch, yes? :p

The spines wouldn't fit between the FSM, GNP, and the Intrada releases anyway...

I actually organize many of my CDs by "series".

I have my Alien scores, Batman scores, Battlestar Galactica scores, and my Star Wars, Star Trek etc.

After that, I've grouped my special editions by composer, with a top shelf for my signed CDs (now full, so there may be some overspill).

I also have Horner and a Giacchino shelves.

The matching spines are basically a nicety that has developed for me, and kind of a stylistic bonus.

It really is the closest to a Star Trek Movie box set we're ever likely to see.

It reflects the unified musical legacy that Star Trek has given us.

It costs them money to even have the front covers up on the site.

I don't think we're entitled to anything, save for the CD they sell, which includes their artwork.

Besides, why would anyone want artwork for a CD release they don't have?

Get the LLLR discs, with the Intrada branded artwork?

I'd be surrounding my 2 CD set with a lie.
