There are a lot of great movies around. Some are loved by the critics, some only by the public and in some cases they are loved by both.

Which films have been a success at the box-office and had good reviews (or higher than 7 points in ImdB) BUT you still can't stand them. You despise this one (or two) title everybody else seems to love. You think it has been highly overrated and it is a mystery to you why this or that film was such a success with critics and the public alike.

Which one? You can also name more than one...

One of my titles would probably be GANDHI (1982). I tried to watch it several times, believe me. But I still have some bad feelings against the film since it took home Oscars for best costume design (linen cloth against TRON) and Best Art direction (clay huts against BLADE RUNNER) and for best editing (against E.T. and Das Boot). Thank god it did not win for best make-up* and not for best music (that one went to a little space traveler desperate to get home). Someday however, I will get past all this and watch the film in its full glory.

GANDHI--even in '82 it was ridiculous that this, at best, well-meaning film won the Oscar over E.T. I caught part of it on TCM a month or so ago and it was just deadly. (Personally, I don't think ANYBODY really classifies GANDHI as "great.")

Off the top of my head, Avatar seems like a good candidate...

Avatar and Titanic. Nowhere near worthy of being the highest grossing films of all time. Why Titantic should be lavished with awards and Aliens and The Terminator/Terminator II got nothing is beyond me. They are excellent films.

To just name a few,"Avatar", "Titanic", "Forest Gump" actually I don't think they are great by any means to begin with, but I hate all 3 of them. "Shindler's List" only because it was sheer torture to watch.
