I was wondering what title(s) you consider has the biggest gap between quality of the movie and its score. What do you think is a crap film but has a terrific score. For a blockbuster or tentpole title, HOOK is a title that jumps to my mind. I have no love for the film and consider it a a big let down. But the Score is a masterpiece. I also think that THE SPECIALIST (Stallone/Stone) doesn't work and the music (Barry) doesn't fit. But listening to the score itself is a quite different experience, I love it and think it is one on par with Barry's best Bond scores. On the other hand, I think the James Bond film GOLDENEYE is pretty good and entertaining. But I get emotional on how much I hate its score by Eric Serra ![]() So, what do you have in mind? Phil |

I still wonder why Hook has such hate from the viewers... Great cast (Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins), very clever screenplay by Nick Castle (Peter Pan has grown up !), fantastic sets, costumes and special effects, wonderful music and song (of course), splendid photography by Dean Cundey,... |

THE FINAL CONFLICT. The movie is an uninspired pot-boiler horror yarn. The score is as grand as can be. |

Without wishing to start a flame war.... I would like to nominate Star Trek (2009) for both being a weak film with a horrible score. There is something about the chord progression(s) which left me feeling nauseous. I think Trancers (1985) is up there as being a good example of a weak(ish) film with a great synthesized score. However...I do like abit of 80's lofi cheese and quite like the film for its tackyness. Lets have a look at Trancers ![]() Jago |

For your consideration, I submit THE SWARM. Painfully bad Irwin Allen disaster flick about killer bees, sporting one of Jerry Goldsmith's absolute best scores from the peak of his career. |

How about the other way around? That is to say a film that's excellent but can't understand why the score is so highly regarded. *cough* The Exorcist *cough* ![]() |

Goldsmith's score for Supergirl is sublime. The film: not so much. ![]() |

Has anyone mentioned the embarrassingly bad "remake" of the great 1976 Lina Wertmuller film Swept Away? The film is about the most self serving, pointless piece of trash ever made with a score by Michel Colombier. |
