Sorry If it has been done before, but I need to know  On my way home, I just listened to THE 'BURBS and again realized how genius this Score is. This gave me the idea to ask you Jerry&Joe Fans what your favorite TWO of the 9 are. You can choose 2, TWO, DEUX, DOS, ZWEI Titles (On my last poll one could choose 3 titles and a lot just chose 1 title, so I just wanted it to be clear that you can choose TWOOOO titles) Phil |

The Burbs and Innerspace for me. This is the two movies where both the score and the movie works wonderful together. |

Gremlins & Explorers. Goldsmith has never been as inspired as in the early 80's and even more for Joe Dante. The only time he retrieved this genius was in 1998 in Small Soldiers, which comes 3rd ! |

I have to go with Gremlins and The 'Burbs. I feel that Gremlins represents the height of Goldsmith's originality, whereas The 'Burbs is filled with great self-parody (long live the Patton trumpet echoplex!) that happens to fit the film perfectly. |

I voted EXPLORERS & THE BURBS, but am a bit sad to see no love for MATINEE. This came out when I was really into discovering Goldsmith, and working at a movie theater at the time helped - it's a great, fun score, just rewatched the movie last week, and it's a nice little time capsule. I'm sure some label will get to an expansion, since there are a few military cues left off the Varese, that are a total throwback to TWILIGHT'S LAST GLEAMING. And JG's take on Steiner's SUMMER PLACE betters that theme 1000 times over IMO. Funny, this was recorded in London, but it seems like that fact was hidden on the album and the film credits....weird.... |

For longest time the 'burbs was my favorite Goldsmith/Dante collaboration then I revisited Gremlins 2: The New Batch and it quickly took top spot. Not only is Gremlins 2 the best score Goldsmith wrote for a Dante film but like my college James Southall pointed out a few months back at MainTitles.net, it is arguable his best comedy score. While not horrible, I think the common complaint about the Gremlins 2 Varese CD is that it sounds a little flat and too distant, and could use more oomph. Cranking up the volume in an attempt to compensate can make it sound too shrill. I agree with that sentiment and hope that it will be addressed in an expanded issue of the score without overly squashing the dynamics in the recording. |
