Elmer Bernstein wanted very badly to do THE BIG COUNTRY and asked his agent to pursue it.

Jerry Goldsmith was going to do a song score with Paul Williams for PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE [sp?] before he died, and (I could be wrong about this one) was vaguely attached to BLADERUNNER at some point.

In his bio (I think), Miklos Rozsa said he was offered three films in one year:

MOMMY DEAREST (he said she was never like that, but then he didn't live with her did he?)
BODY HEAT (he said he didn't care for the graphic sexuality)
He accepted the third (DEAD MEAN DON'T WEAR PLAID).

Before he died, Herrmann was going to do THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION.

And in an old issue of FILMS AND FILMING, John Williams gave an interview where he mentioned some films he might do. Get ready for a surprise:

METEOR
for Robert Altman: QUINTET
for Ridley Scott: ALIEN

And, of course, Bruce Broughton was signed to score both THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST and HOME ALONE. You can even find movie posters that credit him.

One can only guess what might've happened to his career had he not passed these projects onto that other guy.

I was under the impression that Bruce generally chose lower-profile projects because he had more artistic freedom with them.

I'm sure scoring those two films would have made him get more noticed, but are you sure it would make him a top 10 A-lister?

Maybe -- the Chris Columbus link may have landed us with some Broughton Harry Potter scores.
