Post subject: Intrada and Box Sets?

I was wondering what Intrada's current view is on box sets. Personally, I love them and think they can often offer a lot of value for the dollar. Their very nature strongly appeals to the most ardent collectors.

The Superman, Karate Kid, Friday the 13th, Bernard Herrmann and X-Files boxes are examples that show how well they can sell if popular enough. They also seemingly provide a label the opportunity to sell the individual discs after the boxes have sold out.

I know this label is doing fine as it is, but is there any chance for Intrada to do box sets based on film series, television series (we need Tales from the Crypt and Night Gallery  ) or bodies of work by particular composers?

I don't like box sets, so I won't advocate to do one.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, box sets presumably have a bigger risk attached than just releasing the respective content one or two discs at a time in standard packaging.

I initially thought that Varese and La-La Land were overly audacious with some of their box sets, but they turned out to be a success. I'm just glad that there are enough people in this market still willing to buy them.

I think LaLaLand's box sets like X Files, Trek TNG oder Space: Above & Beyond make more sense then some of the FSM box sets. Something like "The Black Box" really is a mixed bag. I purchased it because I was interested in three or four of the scores. To this day I only listen to them...

So, I guess that means when/if Intrada starts doing Disney animated film and television scores, there won't be boxed sets of TV shows, like "Ducktales".

Not really. A box set comes in a box.

La-La Land's 3disc X-Files: Volume 1 is a box set. La-La Land's 3disc Star Trek The Next Generation: Volume 1, Breakdown, The Golden Child, Planet of the Apes, and Space: Above and Beyond are not.

Just like Intrada's The Great Escape or FSM's TV Omnibus: Volume 1 are not

There is a bit of murkiness involved here. I posted the thread in haste without much thought for the philosophy behind the concept.

I do like the box packaging, but getting a comprehensive set of discs and scores is by far the main attraction for me. As far as I know, releases with four or more discs are generally packaged in a box.

I should mention that LLL's X-Files set is four discs.

You're right of course, it is 4 discs.

I also think in general, if something is ONE "project" it is not a box set, like Breakdown, Space Above and Beyond (1 season), etc.

But when it covers multiple projects like the 4 Superman films, 8 X-Files seasons, 8 Medal Of Honor games, 6 Friday the 13th movies, etc, its a box set

What of the LOTR expanded scores then?

What of the 2CD set of a single opera I have that comes in a normal double-sized case but that inside an actual box?
