INTRADA Announces: RENEGADES Music Composed and Conducted by MICHAEL KAMEN INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 192 While the 1989 Morgan Creek film Renegades follows the tried-and-true traditions of “buddy cop” pictures, this time only one of the pair is a cop while the other is a member of the Lakota Indian tribe. At the center of the picture is a sacred lance, stolen by robbers during a violent getaway. Michael Kamen used this sacred lance as the focal point for the score. Mysticism, subtle drama and other low-key ideas take prominence in his score for keyboards, strings, Native American colors and percussion. Kamen’s use of bird-like winds and steady drumbeats conveys the Lakotas’ peaceful nature and the deeply felt spiritual power of their ancient totem. While there is also significant action, the emphasis is on terse rhythmic motifs for low-key piano and synthesizer. While most of the score is sparse and transparent, there is a considerable amount involved, with roughly two thirds of the finished picture containing music. Renegades stars Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips and was Inspired by the Babylonian quest of Gilgamesh (teaming a civilized king with an “unspoiled native”), and first-time screenwriter David Rich sought to bring together a noble American Indian and a brash Philadelphia cop—their culture clash brought about when his undercover investigation-gone-wrong results in the bloody, big-city theft of a sacred tribal lance. INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 192 Retail Price: $19.99 Available Now For track listing and sound samples, please visit http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7419/.f |

There is a lot more music here than I had expected. A very good value. |

I think this is problebly the best paired releases Intrada has ever done in their limited line-up. ![]() Ordered me a Double Deuce of KAMEN. It was over 20 years ago I last saw RENEGADES so I don't remember the score that well... ... but with it being vintage 80's Kamen I don't think I will be dissapointed with this one. I actually had Renegades on DVD in my hands about a week ago when I was shopping. Love it when we get these action score premiere releases. Thanks for a superb start to 2012 Intrada. And on that note: - Another Morgan Creek bites the dust. ![]() |

There is so much goodness here, but just the "Department Store" cue alone makes this CD worth the purchase. I am excited by the prospect of the floodgates opening up for Kamen scores. He may become the new Jerry Goldsmith for label release slates, and that would be a good thing. ![]() |

The fact that this score got produced inspires hope for Action Jackson and Nothing but Trouble. I believe those are both Warner releases, but they are less recognized yet highly entertaining scores nonetheless. Maybe Doug and Roger will get so tired of seeing me mention them that they'll get these scores out the door. ![]() |

I'm really liking this - surprise surprise. Am I the only one? ![]() There's an uncommonly attractive "soundscape" presented with this music in particular that one doesn't always encounter in scores with such spartan production values. Sounds like considerable thought was given to where instruments would sit in the sound field (or whatever the term might be). How much of this was inherent in the multitrack masters or specified in the paperwork (it was this one you had the 24-track elements for, right?) and how much of it was Doug's call? Damn' fine job, whether you created the mix or polished it. ![]() |
