LONG-AWAITED ALBUM RELEASE OF PATRICK DOYLE’S ’MAN TO MAN’
Epic orchestral score marks 10th volume of MovieScore Media’s ’Discovery Collection’
(December 13, 2011- Göteborg, Sweden) – Swedish soundtrack label MovieScore Media is proud to present its first release of an original film score composed by acclaimed composer Patrick Doyle: the long-awaited world premiere recording of his epic orchestral score for french director Régis Wargnier’s adventure Man to Man, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
Patrick Doyle has been one of the most in-demand composers in Hollywood as well as in the UK and France for the past 20 years. His refined sense for melody, orchestral elegance and sophisticated musical drama has resulted in rewarding collaborations with directors such as Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Much Ado About Nothing, Frankenstein), Brian de Palma (Carlito’s Way), Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Donnie Brasco), Robert Altman (Gosford Park), Ang Lee (Sense and Sensibility) and Alfonso Cuarón (Great Expectations, A Little Princess). Doyle has been nominated for the Oscar and Golden Globe twice, and scored such box office hits as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Eragon.
MovieScore Media’s release of the Man to Man score is also the tenth entry in the label’s ‘Discovery Collection’. It features the proud and epic score from this ‘adventure movie with brains’, composed by Patrick Doyle in his most lyrical, melodic and exciting mood. ”Exquisit orchestrations, beautifully brought to life by the London Symphony Orchestra, elegant counterpoint (a trademark asset in Doyle’s music) and engaging rhythmic writing makes Man to Man one of the composer’s finest works, crowned by a magnificient main theme,” said album producer Mikael Carlsson.
About his collaboration with director Régis Wargnier, Patrick Doyle said: ”He is a wonderful collaborator and it is truly a two-way artistic dialogue. Régis loves melody in his scores and strong thematic material. He is a bold director and enjoys the music being equally bold.”
Régis Wargnier on Patrick Doyle’s score for Man to Man: ”When I hear the richness, the variety of themes, I know how much he loved the film. I think he felt closer to this one than to the others, doubtless because it’s an English movie, so he perceived all the nuances. And in addition to that, he’s Scottish!”
Man to Man takes place in 1870 and tells the story about three anthropologists who are certain they have discovered the missing link, having captured two pygmies and brought them to Scotland. Ultimately, the story depicts one man’s struggle to prove that the two short people captured are in fact genuine human beings and not freaks to be shown in a zoo. The film won its director a Golden Berlin Bear nomination at the Berlin International Film Festival. It stars Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love, Enemy at the Gates, Elizabeth), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient, Mission: Impossible, Gosford Park) and Hugh Bonneville (Iris, Notting Hill, Tomorrow Never Dies).
MovieScore Media will release Man to Man (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on CD and digitally online on December 27, 2011. The first CD edition is limited to 1000 copies.
