It's that time of year again and I broke out my Holiday soundtracks. HOME ALONE 1 & 2 and my favorite, Horner's THE GRINCH. I love his score and song WHERE ARE YOU CHRISTMAS. What about you guys? |

I've always enjoyed listening to Bernard Herrmann's "A Christmas Carol" (LP) as well as any other recording of the Charles Dickens story. There's one with Basil Wrathbone with a score by Leith Stevens and so many others. Saw a 78 rpm set a few days ago of Ronald Coleman as Scrooge but the damn thing was just too heavy and bulky to deal with right now. The background music score was composed by Victor Young. In a warmer climate such as Florida, Michael Brooks downbeat and strangely depressing score for Affliction became a holiday tradition a few years ago for some peculiar reason. For me, Christmas has always had a sort of mauldlin feeling about it, I tend to choose what I listen to based upon those feelings. |

I customarily listen to the 57-minute Home Alone album around Christmas time. I will be listening to Gremlins a lot this holiday season. |

Home Alone (John Williams), Miracle on 34th Street (Bruce Broughton), The Polar Express & A Christmas Carol (Alan Silvestri), The Nightmare Before Christmas (Danny Elfman), It's a Wonderful Life (Dimitri Tiomkin), A Christmas Carol (Alan Menken), The Muppets Christmas Carol (Paul Williams & Miles Goodman) are amongst my favorites for Christmas. This would be great if Intrada and Walt Disney Records released Alan Silvestri's A Christmas Carol on CD for the holydays ! |
