Just for those of you who like to voice thoughts on topics from my corner, here's a "user-friendly" repost of a current blog about our new limited edition model. Feel free to post any thoughts and whatnot here. Thank you, fellow soundtrack listeners!

I'm pleased to hear from many of you that our shift in Intrada's limited edition business model is doing just what we had hoped it would do. You get the music you want and have a say in just how many copies we should manufacture... and for how long.

I honestly feel it's the most customer-friendly approach in our little industry... and, duh!... yes, I'm biased. But I think we're onto a system that respects customers first, allows them to prioritize their purchases from the flood of releases coming out in all directions... and still maintain some of the excitement that limited editions do generate. For those who enjoy investing in limited releases, be it for fun or for speculation, you've got a place as well.

As was just seen with YOUNG GUNS II, we'll still see titles disappear quickly after the initial interest dies down. With a target date attached, interested customers have some warning as to when they should take the final plunge. Obviously a title can sell out earlier than the posted date if sufficient interest warrants. But now you help determine just how many copies we should license and manufacture, which is pretty friendly in my humble opinion. Plus, we still keep our limited titles within the express guidelines of the musician's union and studios with respect to overall quantities, which currently can't exceed ten thousand units in any case.

In summary, we're just putting the pressure on the back end instead of the front end now. No more waking up in the morning only to discover a limited gem has sold out within hours of a release announcement... yet collectors and investors still get to enjoy the challenge of stuff being available only for relatively short periods of time. If it's in the Special Collection or Signature Series, there will be some pressure to prioritize, just thankfully not overnight!

And, of course, we'll continue releasing "standards" in our MAF series with no limits on the quantities at all, such as with RED DAWN, FIRST BLOOD, RAMBO III, WIND AND THE LION, SILVERADO, THE GREAT ESCAPE, PATTON, TOMBSTONE and others. On that stuff, for as long as we control a license (which can be anywhere from a few years to in perpetuity) you'll be able to purchase them.

Anyway, I think all of this is a win-win for everyone!

Well, I will certainly say this: From my perspective, it's working great !!!

I like the fact that I don't have to rush to get a CD, but can take a little time before clicking that "order" button.

This is a great way for us to both have our cakes and eat them, and it probably works better for you financially too.

By matching supply and demand evenly, you have shifted the focus from "Limited to X Copies" to "What fantastic music".

Bravo !!!

Question: For titles that sold fairly well (inbetween both ends of the selling spectrum) that Intrada owns the right to in perpetuity, but peters out and it's discontinued, could Intrada -- for example -- maybe five years down the line (or any year amount) release it again (since, as mentioned, they do hold the rights in perpetuity) in another small run, just for new customers and folks who did miss it (whatever the reasons)?

In my opinion this is perfect and i make my compliments for this genial Policy! I collect, for example, The Special Collection and i want to have the entire encyclopedia, so in this way i like organizing my purchases without stress and so on....and i'am very very happy and i can program every month my money without surprises anymore! I found it fun, intriguing and first of all, it is sane!!!
Thank you Doug and all the staff:)

I like how things are going with this new policy. I really like having that extra time when deciding. It gave me that extra time to wait on the new Delerue score THE RAPTURE and pick up Alan Silvestri's OVERBOARD (which came out of nowhere) at just 1000 copies.
Giving us a set date for when a certain CD will go OOP is awesome too. I'm glad you guy's think it is going well. I've been waiting to read anything about how Intrada felt about how things were going. Keep up the great work as usual.

I bow to the wisdom of this improved method. Not only are the obvious benefits to everyone's advantage, but also, as Doug mentioned, it puts Intrada out of the rat race that other Clubs are a part of (due to their necessity, I'd imagine). If only all exclusive editions of all types of collectibles were this inclusive.

God bless Intrada: no more orders in a hurry in the middle of the night ruining our rest (at least for us living in Europe).

Completely support the new model. For me it works perfectly now. No getting up early to place an order just in case it sells out. Now no one misses out. Well done Intrada.

Post subject:  Re: Our Limited Edition Policy Is Working Quite Well...

So is there a reason there's a date when a title goes OOP instead of number of copies left? Some people on FSM are complaining that you didn't keeo your word about Young Guns II, and while obviously you can't sell what you don't have, I can't figure out the reason to use the date.

Maybe Azella, however at the time of the warning of the date they should also have stated how many copies they had left to sell. I know a few people who took the date as sacrosanct and were planning they're budget based on that so they could buy it but didn't have the funds to get it when the date warning went out.

Given the new model people aren't rushing to nab the copies are immediately, particularly with so many other great releases coming out. We'll never know how much additional interest was generated when the ending date was announced; they might have been able to sell another 200 odd CD's.

<Edit: fixed a couple of infelicitous typos>

Plus one from me, in support of the new model. I've always felt that the most important aspect of all this, is for as many music lovers as possible to be able to hear this stuff. If more people get to hear, say, Delerue's sublime score for RAPTURE than they would have if the release were artificially limited, then all the better.

Intrada, you guys rock, for being so adaptable and so open with us customer/fan boys. We can be a little difficult in our care and feeding, but I think we also passionately repay the kind of above-and-beyond consideration that you guys have always shown us.
