Gentlemen of Intrada - I have an odd question for you. On the original CONAN LP, the track "The Search" stood on its own. Then, when Varese released their expanded CD, they overlapped it with "The Leaving" - which is also how it sounds in the film. Have you considered keeping these two pieces separate on your new edition? I always felt "The Search" stood strongly on its own, and merging it with "The Leaving" diluted it. Then again, I'm a bit prejudiced - it's one of my favorite cues of all time. I'd also be curious to hear what other people think about this idea. For reference, here's "The Leaving / The Search" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1YqfnSD1LU And here's "The Search" on its own. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLJ2hurTJKo |

"The Search" stood alone on the original LP. The Varese edition crossfaded "The Leaving" (which was not on the original LP at all) into "The Search." The transition is reminiscent of the crossfade between the two cues that appears in the film, but is not the same. While they were one track on the Nic Raine recording, they were nevertheless presented as separate cues without the crossfade. |

If Doug and Roger are asked to start fielding such specific questions months (or for all we know, even years) before a project's actual release, I personally think they would never again let us know what other gold might yet be in the pipeline. Should CONAN be a grail for you, Sarge, my advice is that you rest satisfied with Intrada's gift of certainty that it's coming at all. Start a members' poll and express your preference on this matter, if you like; maybe the weight of opinions one way or the other might influence Doug's assembly in your direction, or maybe not. But if we the customers also become nuisances, then the label predictably will go back to limiting the pre-release info they grant us. |

Ok, so guys.. no big deal here. As has been suggested, I don't read here as often as I'd like because I am usually working on stuff. I did look for some feedback on the opening cues but - based on the number of diverse responses - we can all see this CONAN release just won't meet everyone's personal vision. We'd have a massive box set of 427 CDs if we did. There'd be no room for a booklet! As to any subsequent suggestions on assembling other various tracks, I welcome people expressing their thoughts. Just realize I may miss the suggestions - or worse still - accept when all is said and done that I'll probably just make the album I want to play. Golly. ![]() --Doug |
