I'm planning on making a compilation of love themes, and I was wondering what 15 love themes YOU would put on a CD. I chose the number "15" because I figured that's all that would fit on one CD. And... if you can possibly help it, don't look at anyone else's suggestions until AFTER you've posted YOUR suggestions! I have some ideas as to what I'm going to put on the compilation, but would welcome your ideas as well! thanks! ![]() |

Buon Giorno Principessa from La Vita E Bella (Nicola Piovani) and the finale from Once Upon A Time In The West (Ennio Morricone). The other 13 would take time some time to compile. |

15 will take time to be chosen, but there is no way you don't put the quintessential love themes from Superman, Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. |

Seriously no one's brought up Miklos Rozsa, probably the greatest writer of "love themes" ever? I'm thinkin' some El Cid at least here, people. But heck I could come up with 15 amazing love themes by Rozsa alone! Yavar |

Hello, all! This is my first post, so here goes. Soundtrack compilations are what I do with most of my spare time, so this thread is right up my alley. Some cues have the actual title "Love Theme" but I had to include some other (IMO) heartbreakingly beautiful themes that don't have that specific title. I've noted for my future compilations the other suggestions posted. Here are my 15: Love Theme from Cold Mountain by Gabriel Yared Love Theme from The Saint by Graeme Revell Glasgow Love Theme from Love Actually by Craig Armstrong Love Theme from Ben-Hur by Miklos Rozsa Love Theme from While You Were Sleeping... by Randy Edelman Colwyn and Lyssa Love Theme from Krull by James Horner Love Theme from Dances with Wolves by John Barry Love Theme from Superman the Movie by John Williams Love Theme from French Kiss by James Newton Howard Ilia's Theme from Star Trek: The Motion Picture by Jerry Goldsmith Waltz Theme from The Slipper and the Rose by Sherman/Sherman Mountain Theme from The Man from Snowy River by Bruce Rowland Theme from Beauty and the Beast (TV show) by Lee Holdridge Theme from Until September by John Barry Marion's Theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark by John Williams |

Only one single mention of Georges Delerue, the king of love themes? |

I agree, more Delerue required. And John Barry ain't that shabby at love themes. Thing is, it seems when a lot of people think "love themes" many people seem to think "love themes from action films", possibly because action films are what most people seem to be in to. But, forgive me, Until September is far superior love theme to many mentioned so far. (Incidentally, Maleficio, I know you may not be much of a Barry fan, but Until September is a particularly Delerue-esque piece of Barry in my opinion. Did you buy? I suspect it's the Barry you'd be most likely to like.) At the risk of making this like the "controversial opinions" thread of FSM (hopefully not), I don't find the love themes in Star Wars and Raiders to be all that remarkable. Sure, yes, they are good. But there are better, more genuine and sensual love themes out there in the world of film. (By 'more genuine', I mean this: the Star Wars and Raiders love themes are love themes set in a cartoon world, rather than love themes set in a more seriously and genuinely romantic setting.) Though it's by far my least favorite of the Star Wars scores, I think "Across The Stars" from Attack Of The Clones may actually be the best love theme from a Star Wars film. Hey, it's just my opinion. Cheers |
