I own all of the old releases (some in dolby surround mix) and want to ask the pros and purists here, if the new editions are worth to rebuy. i like the gerhardt series a lot and they have a special place in my collection. so my question to Doug, Roger and the others with the same audio-taste in how an old recording has to sound like: are the new edtions worth to be bought again for the improved audio ? thanks Andy |

People are very impressed over at the FSM forum. It sounds like they've been remastered with a big improvement. I have them all & still listen to them a lot. I'm going to buy just one, & see what I think. |

I don't have any, so I'll get them all. I have heard the second batch is due out next March. |

I wonder if they're going to release the Charles Gerhardt recording of Richard Rodgers' Victory At Sea, recorded in 1969, a couple of years before the "Classic Film Score" series? It's not mentioned very often but sure as hell deserves to be. Charles Gerhardt is king. RIP. |

I just got four of them in the mail the other day and have only been able to listen to part of THE SEA HAWk plus a couple of selections off the others; but I can safely say that the remastered sound is a big improvement over the older CDs - maybe even the LPs. The opening of THE SEA HAWK is breathtaking. |

I got them all in the mail today but they are still in shrinkwrap. I will listen to them shortly and probably donate the old versions to the city library. |

Before selling or giving away the older CDs, you might want to consider some of the comments made over at the FSM board. One person has noted a little deterioration of the CAPTAIN FROM CASTILE march, and another noted "wow" at the start of TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE. |
