Of all the following OST's I've bought that were 2 discs every single one of them has the hinges broken:

Wrath Of Kahn
Search for Spock
Outland
Krull
Batman

The cases these are packed in all appear to be the same design and all feel very cheap and brittle. Has anyone else experienced problems with the quality of the cases?

There are much better designs out there, this appears to me to be a mayor design fault, either that or I'm just unlucky

Yes, I can confirm that I have replaced quite a few of those 2CD cases, since the hinges apparently cannot withstand any kind of movement. These CD cases look neat but are brittle.
In any case, for such occasions I have various CD cases at hand, so I just replace them. As long as the CDs and liner notes arrive here unscathed, it's just not a big issue for me.

I don't think it has to do with the packaging. In my last Intrada order, all the 2 CD cases (outland and st3) had the hinges broken but no other sign of damage; looks like the labels are using the cheapest possible boxes and they already come broken from start

For me only one time I received the cases broken, in Bernstein's FSM box . Is not bad, because I've been buying CDs every month for the last five years. But I think that the boxes of CDs can be easily improved with the use of better materials.

Yep, that was the issue, they were sealed but once opened it was obvious the hinges were broken, and in Krull's case, were missing completely!!!

So it's not just mine then, there is a quality issue with the cases. Whilst it's not the end of the world, it is very irritating when you've just shelled out $20 plus (plus shipping). It's like ordering a sandwich but you have to supply the bread

I have way more problems with double cases than single cases. Unfortunatley I havent a clue where to purchase doble cd cases not in bulk for reasonable prices, so I have to complain and get a new case sent to me.

I have always despised the newer double CD cases that are the same as the regular jewel cases.

Now they have the ones with the clear trays and everyone I've gotten has broken while shipping. And it's not the fault of any of the labels.

The best double CD case I've seen was one that's in between the regular Jewel case and the old Clamshell ones. I only have one and it came from Japan with an import CD.

Found a small store this weekend that had single (.99), 2 CD (2.49) and 4 CD (3.49) jewel cases.
This is why I am asking if anyone knows of a less expensive place to find these. I did buy 2 of
the 2 CD jewel cases to replace the recent damaged ones that I received. I just want to have
some around for the next batch of damaged ones I receive.

Yes, I also have had some problems when recieving 2 disc editions and the hinges have been broken (Tombstone and Supernova) from Intrada which always pack their CDs good, but when Supernova arrived the case was broken and one CD badly scratched by it and that is the only time I have felt a complaint, but Intrada sent me a new case and a new disc. That is a class act...
