INTRADA Announces: PREDATOR Composed and Conducted by ALAN SILVESTRI INTRADA Special Collection Volume 141 For the latest Special Collection release, Intrada revisits a classic action score from the 80s - Alan Silvestri's music from the 1987 Fox film Predator. Deftly blending full orchestral color with pounding synthesizer, Silvestri took on his first full-fledged horror/sci-fi genre-mash with gusto, offering music as hard and muscular as the testosterone-fueled commandos who people the film. Silvestri’s “Main Title,” heralded by a dissonant burst of brass and the eerie descending strings marks the Predator’s arrival on earth. Almost immediately, the Predator's opponents are introduced—the commando team—by one of the score’s most successful devices: a tough military march laid over a brutal six-note percussion figure that keeps circling back with relentless ferocity. >From here, it's one of the most dynamic, exciting action scores written, with only brief moments of reflection or eerie suspense before returning to pulse-pounding action. At the time of the original soundtrack's release (itself some years after the film's release and being one of the most sought-after soundtracks), the only available elements were analog masters which by their nature contained a bit of hiss. Since then, pristine, crystal clear digital masters have surfaced, prompting a revisit of this important score, perhaps one of the most important amongst Silvestri's body of work. The film introduces an elite troop of muscle-bound commandos into the rain forests of Central America on a putative rescue mission, then tables are turned, making the team the prey of a heat-seeking sport hunter from another world. Starting as an action-adventure yarn with a military flavor, the film swiftly turns into Ten Little Indians in the jungle, with commandos being picked off one by one. By the climactic final sequences, mission leader Dutch Schaeffer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is the last man standing and goes one on one with the terrifying apparition of the Predator (Kevin Peter Hall). This release is limited to 3000 units. Ordered before I even read the blurb or looked at the tracklist ![]() ![]() Hmmm.....so it has three less tracks, though about a minutes and half more run time. Let's see, looks like "Predator Injured; Hand To Hand Combat" is two cues combined, and "Something Else; Cut ‘Em Down; Payback Time" is three. Kinda annoying, but not enough to make up for better sound (and probable profit of the Varese version in a couple months when this also sells out...) |

I won't be able to order this one due to lack of funds currently - but I know a friend who's going to buy a copy for me, so I'm a happy camper in the end regardless. Thank you for this re-release, Intrada. Here's to another go-around for those who missed out on the Varese Club edition! (I know I did - although I bought and then subsequently sold mine about a month ago. What timing!) |

Congratulations to INTRADA!!!!!! I am so glad that it is only limited to 3,000 copies, so that the VARESESARABANDE limited I purchased...at a reasonable sum of money...still holds some value ![]() All the best INTRADA, keep the good work up ![]() |

Truly amazing release and saying this i do have Varese one, tho many ppl missed Varese at that time, many new ppl came to film music world till then aswell. For me Predator was always the most desired score to release, ofcourse till it finally was released. I would order Intrada editions even if it was straight reissue as i love the score, tho 'Presented from recently discovered original two-track digital stereo session master elements' makes it even better. BIG Thank You guys. |

Nice. I missed on on the Varese release, and good digital masteres would sound far better than any of the less-than-legitimate releases. 101% Ordered ![]() |
