Is the Tiomkin ballet music Bill spoke about on social media part of this Excalibur Edition project as well, or is it unrelated?

It’s always a beautiful thing to see an orchestra playing film music, especially something that has not been performed in its entirety for some 65 years!

Although I find this score much too heavy and too present - and in a contrapunctual way not an ideal fit - to listen to it separately will be quite exciting
There is only one thing I find odd: The studio sessions clips show a studio I have never seen in the Slovak Radio building; it's neither Studio 1 nor Studio 2, so there must be another Studio (?)... The big Radio Concert Hall has chairs starting from the ground floor and not on upper balconies. I record there since 1978 and I was there last time two weeks ago.

Hi Adriano and welcome to the forum! I agree with you on Tiomkin's writing in general and his music for Hitchcock in particular. However, I am a proud crowdfunding backer of this new collaboration between the Tribute Film Classics team and Intrada, and I similarly have hope that it will be enjoyable to listen to on its own, outside of the film context (I feel this way about several Tiomkin scores).

The reason the recording venue is unfamiliar is because they ended up recording with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, in Glasgow.

By writing "too present" I was not clear enought, sorry: I actually meant that there is too much music over the image. You are right that it's a low dubbing, but this occurs in so many Hollywood and European films! I just noticed this again lately by watching the "Gotham" TV series...

This link is misleading, since in its header they say that it is the "Slovak National Symphony Orchestra"...

In other words, no wonder I did not recognise the studio in Glasgow - where they recorded with the Scottish National, I suppose!

I could be wrong but it may not be possible for Intrada to change that header line about the Slovak orchestra, after the Kickstarter has already passed. I'm pretty sure they included the news about the switch to RSNO in one of the updates.
