LLLR said they pushed the 4CD "The X-Files" set to this year, to coincide with the ComicCon. Also, another CD with selections from "The Lone Gunmen" and "Harsh Realm", will be out this year, too.

I can't speak for the last two shows, as I hate TLG, and only saw some of HR.

I could spend over an hour typing up TV scores.

Hey, guys -

More ancient TV stuff. Last night at Amoeba I picked up the old Silva CD of music from "The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe". This was for a 13 episode version of Defoe's story that appeared on British TV back in the early '60s. The music by Robert Mellin and Gian-Piero Reverberi is charmingly melodic and very listenable. There's little "exotic" flavor of the south seas in the music, rather it seems to be scoring the main character's longing for home. There's a long tech note that apologizes at great length about the defects of the source tapes, but it all sounds great to my ears.

Apparently the show featured many flashbacks to Crusoe's life in England before he got stranded. Anybody ever see this? I'm rather curious to know how it worked.

The so-called "music" for television these days is for the most part worthless. Don't watch much television myself but every now and then I'll catch a snippet or two of the sort of brain dead trash being broadcast on the major networks.

Caught the end of one of those horribly boring, made for American cable films broadcast on a network geared towards a female audience not long ago and noticed Laurence Rosenthal composed the score. Holy shit, I thought to myself, surely that guy deserves better scoring assignments than this.

Television music is another dead art as far as I'm concerned. The best is in the past. Even those goofball police series from the 1970's had great music. Didn't watch it then and wouldn't watch it now but hey... Jerry Fielding, Henry Mancini and so many others movin' it along gave it all a sort of class.

On a whim I recently picked up Lalaland's new "Days of Our Lives" set. Now, I've never been any sort of devotee of daytime soap operas but I'm finding this collection of music very pleasing indeed. Nobody's going to mistake it for Korngold or Steiner, obviously, but there's an agreeably chill, trance-like vibe to a lot of the stuff on the first disc that's really floating my boat right now after a loooooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg night at the office. Feels like equal time is given to actual instruments played by real people and the occasional dusting of samplers and synthesizers. Some choir too, if my ears do not deceive me. Definitely not for all tastes hereabouts, but I figured I'd throw this out there for those who feel like taking a chance.

I hope this sells well enough to justify the investment on the label's part. It's unexpected discoveries like this that keep me mentally lubricated. :D
