I am absolutely puzzled why there has not been an expanded complete CD release of this Goldsmith masterpiece.

This very much in demand release must be involved in some sort of copyright issue? Does Silva still have the rights to the music they issued on CD?

Does anyone know exactly why Alien has not been released yet?

My guess is 20th Century Fox is somehow holding back on the release. I don't think Silva has the rights to anything except what they released in the way of their compilations. There is a bootleg around if you support that sort of thing (I don't).

OK, I'm going to have to go back and listen to this score again. I remember it being mostly just atmospheric back ground music, but with the way everyone keeps talking about it, I must have completely forgotten what it sounds like.

All I have is the Title track and a 10 minute suite from the Jerry Goldsmith At 20th Century Fox box set- but that should be enough to see what all the fuss is about.

I consider Alien to be among the all time greatest Goldsmith scores. Yeah, I would love to see a more complete release. The current Silva release is terribly lacking. The sound is mediocre at best, and some of the most interesting stuff is missing. (It's still a decent album, but it lacks coherence, particularly in the second half of the album.)
I never cared about the Hanson stuff as End Title (I don't have anything against Hanson's music per se, it just doesn't fit Alien in my opinion), but I probably prefer Goldsmith's re-scored Main Title over his original version, too. This atmospheric, ominous Main Title and the original End Title would bookend the movie (and any possible future release... hint, hint) perfectly.

It's great to have a DVD with the complete score isolated to be enjoyed and what-not, however, I would greatly prefer a deluxe CD pressing with the score remastered with liner notes.

I mean, if ALIEN NATION can get this treatment,
ALIEN most certainly should also.
Delays, delays... whatever!
I'm patiently waiting for this one!
