I can't help but appreciate hearing stuff like "Intrada's fastest seller of all time". Who around here wouldn't?

But some perspective. Yes, I focus on collector-oriented releases. My heart's in projects neglected by the major labels. And AFM policies and studio interest now make it possible. But think back a few years.

We were paying union fees long before historical rates came about, tackled mass distribution and did new titles with Disney, MGM and others back then. TOMBSTONE landed near Christmas of 1993 and we sold 10,000 units in the first week. We were so small-time we had trouble keeping up! But we kept at it. We took re-orders steadily with big chain stores for several months and eventually sold more than 30,000 units world wide. SILVERADO took off like a rocket, THE LORD OF THE RINGS outpaced TOMBSTONE, RAMBO III was huge, and so on.

Sure. These numbers wouldn't impress the majors. But we served our time... and we kept most of our sanity. And the same hamsters that helped me get through it all are still around, lifting, toting, cheering, booing, you name it. 25 years and counting.

Just wanted to clarify things... or perhaps toot my own trumpet. Whatever. My fellow labels that have sprung up since then are all making history happen, too. SUPERMAN in a box, AIRPLANE, GHOSTBUSTERS, CLEOPATRA, PREDATOR, more Rozsa classics than you can shake a stick at... Man! Is this a great musical renaissance or what?

7 and 8??? Wow. I mentioned to my dad yesterday that BTTF took 3 years and he was bowled over by it (we're British, we still get bowled over)

I can't quite understand the militant attitude about downloads on this and other boards. Of course a lovingly packaged CD with extensive liner notes is the BEST way to get a soundtrack, but if someone told me tomorrow that, say, Marc Wilkinson's music for If.... was about to be released as a download-only album I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

Imagine for a moment that for some obscure reason Disney had decided that Intrada could only release The Journey of Natty Gann as a download. That music is beyond beautiful, and I would never let something as niggling as the format it comes in stop me from hearing it.

For me, it's all about hearing the music I love independent of the films that I love, and if the only way to do that was through a download, I have zero problems.

Just a side not about the length of time.

I believe Varese's liner notes for Lonley Are The Brave mentions that Goldsmith knew it was in the process of being released before he passed.

But I know I'm grateful for the amount of time you all spend working one these.

MONSTER SQUAD took 7 years. There's one coming out next year that took 8 years.[/quote]

See, this looks weird if you can't read Hampsterese, so let me decipher, since I'm so well versed - it says FINALLY North's complete SPARTACUS is coming.

Also keep in mind. Projects can take years to develop when a regime changes at a studio, shelving projects for lengthy periods. All sorts of stuff like that. Not to mention long searches for missing elements, coordinating schedules for all parties concerned: composers, estates of same, studio attorneys, editing and mastering duties, liner note authors, manufacturing and printing schedules, what have you. If it's a new movie and the album has to be out by yesterday, so be it. All parties converge. But on these "dream come true" limited release titles going out to a niche market, it's really all a matter of patience.
