Received this a couple of days ago and gave it a spin. Very nice package indeed. Great artwork, wonderful notes, and great sci-fi Goldsmith score. It's amusing to hear some of the devices Goldsmith used in the very serious PLANET OF THE APES score get deployed in a score that is really, for the most part, the antithesis of that score. Stereo quality is great throughout, except for one section of track 10, "The Labor Continues," where some serious wow pokes its head out. It's unfortunate, but it is what is...and could have been a lot worse. It's a short, but very satisfying listen. Great presentation overall. Gives hope that maybe Varese will do the same for Von Ryan's Express (the poster art alone would make that one a must have!). Come to think of it, if the rest of DAMNATION ALLEY ever surfaces, that would have stunning art as well! |
