John Williams' latest CD appears to be also his first major film score. Far from the Johnny Williams' 60's comedies, the main theme from None But the Brave is majestic and foreshadows many of John Williams' future orchestral qualities, and not only the most obvious example of that (Midway, 1976).
The battle sequences of this score proudly announce the battles from Star Wars which would eventually be written 12 years later. How can we listen now to The Final Fight from NBTB without thinking of The Last Battle from SW ? Williams is really constructing his style here and the film music revolution to come in the late 70's certainly began in 1965 with this particular score.
Thanks to FSM for giving rebirth to this first Williams major film score, a true piece of history of film music. I hope that the next to come is The Rare Breed, which was in 1966 (one year later) the confirmation that Williams would become the greatest film composer in a near future...
