Post subject: | Mancini's secondary themes |
A listen to "Soft Scene" from THE THIEF WHO CAME TO DINNER reminded me that Mancini would occasionally write secondary themes that were more-than-worthy but probably not destined for popularity (I always thought it was because they were rather long-lined and covered a wide stretch of intervals.) I believe it is "Dreamy" (or "Orange Float") from THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER that features a piano theme over strings that is just.... uh.... dreamy: And he named the lesbian scene from ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH as a great theme (I haven't heard it yet). I also like "Pesce!" from WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE. Any other worthy, secondary, non-title-theme, not-the-primary-song-in-the-score pieces by Mancini I've not mentioned? |

Someone over at FSM proved me wrong about secondary stuff not being a hit: Baby Elephant Walk - |

I made the mistake of forgetting that THE PINK PANTHER is brimming over with secondary themes that are just gorgeous. |

While on the subject of Hatari let us not forget "The Soft Touch." One of my favorite tunes from Peter Gunn is "Dreamsville." The list can go on and on with a true tunesmith!! Thomas |
