![]() My 85-year old uncle will be moving to Florida next month, and the chances are good that I will never see him again. He's moving to a retirement community. I want to make him a compilation CD(Kind of a "farewell" present) and I need some suggestions for things to put on there with a similar emotional feeling. The FIRST thing to go on the CD will be the new complete "Kick The Can"... I can think of no better piece of poignant music than this. Keeping in mind the emotions that Goldsmith's music conveys in "KTC", can you fine folks suggest some other pieces I can put on this CD? THANKS!!! |

Jeez that's a tall order, and I'll be curious to see what people come up with, but since I was playing it today, the first thing that popped in my mind (well two things) were... Herrmann's THE ROAD/FINALE from Farenheit 451 WALKING DISTANCE from Twilight Zone Best of luck to ya TC! |

Already gave them to him on another compilation! However, I might do "Walking Distance" again, since it does have a somewhat similar theme(story-wise, that is). |

A nice gesture, Terry. The wording of your post intuitively suggested Basil Poledouris's FAREWELL TO THE KING. Must be some appropriate cues in that score, or perhaps a little edited suite (waltz, march, elegaic passages) with some precise editing. Just saw UP yesterday (nice little film). You sound like you are worthy of a support for the elderly badge. ![]() BB |

It's a nice gesture, but... do you think it's a good idea to give a 85 years old person a CD that from now until his death will probably make him sad every time he plays it? I would choose something more happy/optimistic. |

It's hard enough picking music for people you know, & just about impossible for people you don't know, & if he really loved a piece of music enough, he'd buy it himself, wouldn't he. |

Jarre's orchestral arrangment of "Unchained Melody" from "Ghost". Track 9 from the commercial release of "The Mighty" (Trevor Jones). If you think it's a good addition, the instrumental "White Bird" from "Knight Rider" (arranged by Don Peake). "Gabriel's Oboe" from "The Mission" (Ennio Morricone). I don't know how you are about unreleased scores, but there is a particularly moving piece I can upload for you. PM me if interested. |

Don't make it too despressing. Stick on the Final Game from Rudy. |

To me, a nice balance would be "Finale and End Credits" from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. You've got the energy and enthusiasm of the Raiders March and the Scherzo along with the more reflective Grail Knight/Henry Jones theme. |

I'm afraid I won't be very musical here, but can't you just go and visit him in Florida when you have some time ? Your visit will certainly mean more to him than any compilation... |
