I've finally managed to buy a copy of this CD. IMHO, this is one the 2008's best scores, at the same time mysterious, lyrical and haunting. Roque Banos really knows how to write involving, fresh music filled with beautiful melodies, interesting orchestral touches here and there, such as the solo harpsichord in Martin's woman, a cue somewhat reminiscent of Ennio Morricone's approach. What I like about his work is that it's refreshingly old-fashioned in this day and age of generic film music. He knows how to develop themes and motives, and has a keen dramatic sense. A rarity these days. Along with Alexandre Depslat, Dario Marianelli and Alberto Iglesias, he seems to be one of the shining young stars in European filmmusic. I also loved his Herrmann flavored scored for THE MACHINIST. What do you guys think of his work? Any further recommandations ? Spanish CDs are sometimes hard to come by. Here's hoping next years bring forth more music by this very talented chap. |
