I hope you'll forgive me "hijacking" your idea Roger, but I had to mention 1982, which saw a number of the greatest scores ever written. Certainly the following are all classics... Blade Runner (Vangelis) Conan The Barbarian (Poledouris) The Dark Cystal (Jones) Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Rozsa) ET (Williams) First Blood (Goldsmith) Frances (Barry) Monsignor (Williams) Poltergeist (Goldsmith) The Road Warrior (May) The Secret of NIMH (Goldsmith) Star Trek II (Horner) Tron (Carlos) There were also some very fine efforts, maybe not in league with the above but still impressive... The Challenge (Goldsmith) Das Boot (Doldinger) Diva (Cosma) The Escape Artist (Delerue) Firefox (Jarre) 48 Hrs. (Horner) Ghandi (Shankar / Fenton) Inchon (Goldsmith) A Little Sex (Delerue) The Man from Snowy River (Rowland) Missing (Vangelis Rocky III (Conti) The Sender (Jones) Sophie's Choice (Hamlisch) Summer Lovers (Poledouris) The Thing (Morricone) Trail of the Pink Panther (Mancini) Victor/Victoria (Manicini) Yes, Giorgio (John Williams / Michael J. Lewis) |

Michel Magne's magnificent Les Miserables deserves a mention as well. Especially since there are only, like, six people who appear to own this score... CK |
