Roger, for what it is worth I still own the "Red Dawn" LP -- the first limited edition ever issued by Intrada. I remember how thrilling it was to acquire that LP back then (in a store! where one could actually browse) -- and I still have it living in the oversized plastic sleeve in which it was sealed. I give it a spin now and then, and it still sounds damn fine. Of course I've upgraded to the latest and definitive CD edition of "Red Dawn" -- but that LP still represents in no small measure what soundtrack collecting meant and still means to me. Another enormous thrill was holding the Intrada LP of "Islands in the Stream" in my hands for the first time. Both LPs gave me goosebumps when I first played them. I know that I am forever grateful to Intrada, the Bernstein Filmmusic Collection, Bay Cities, FMS/SAE, Varese Sarabande, and all of the other foreign and domestic labels who have been and continue to be such a vital force in preserving and promoting the art and true joy of film music. It seems like every week a new release makes me stop a moment, pinch myself, and then let the awareness sink in that, yes, there really is a CD coming of......... |

Mine arrived today along with THe Matrix Deluxe Edition. Can't wait to give a listen. The first set of North & Sotuh was one of my favorite releases this year. We'll see if Volume 2 surpasses that.[/quote] I have been a fan of the score to both Books since the shows first aired. I mentioned somewhere that I still have my original airing viseotapes recorded on my old warhorse vcr (the original RCA top loading 6 hour VHS recorder with a corded remote purchased in 1979 which still works and still has the original resording heads. Weighs a "ton" too. I retired it sometime ago but have used it as a back up at times) I love the Book 1 recording including the source music. What a cast too. My 5 favorie mini series: North and South 1 and 2, Centennial, Shogun and Masada. I will have a massive listening stack in a few days between the Varese Club releases and the LLL sale where I snagged a dozen cds plus Not Without My Daughter. Gary |
