Welcome Gordon ! Re The Chairman, I thought the Varèse suite on the JG box, although in mono, sounded much better than the Prometheus LP transfer. Too bad we can't have a longer version from these tracks. |

Thanks to everyone for the feedback! So, I guess I'll definitely be picking up RANSOM sometime. I already own the old Silva Screen CD. It is indeed a shame stereo masters are (so far) M.I.A. for this one. I think Jerry Goldsmith wrote some great, short bursts of almost "concert-like" piano writing on this particular score, that would benefit from being heard from the actual masters. Weren't there several pianos on this score ? Just wondering. Maybe someday Eric Tominson who engineered this for Jerry will find complete, pristine stereo masters. One can only wish for this to happen. But sometimes I have to agree: a good vinyl transfer is better than nothing at all. As a matter of fact SOMETHING WILD by Aaron Copland is an extraordinary film score, yet the Varèse release could only be mastered from a mint vinyl source and it sounds just fine. The CHAIRMAN suite on the Boxed-set is a very nice addition, but in mono alas. Oh, well... |
