Hi everyone. I noticed on the John Williams Fan Network that you can watch amateur clips of the "Film Night at Tanglewood." This is a treat! We get to watch Williams and the Boston Pops perform actual score cues matched to film, particularly with INDIANA JONES. Williams seems to have resurrected his old score from RAIDERS, as well as that from THE LAST CRUSADE. In each case, the BPO performs the opening scene. CRUSADE is played totally without score. Still a rousing scene without the music, but no where near as good. Of course. Then it's played with the live orchestra hitting the sync points spot on ("Indy's First Adventure"). Brilliant!
I noticed with RAIDERS something interesting, too. Here, Williams actually plays 2 cues from the score, "In the Idol's Temple" and "Flight From Peru." A revelation here... it looks like Williams composed a moment of score while Indy talks with Beloq. When Beloq sicks the natives on Indy, we hear the familiar opening to the flight music (as heard on the CD). In the finished film, the Beloq exhange goes without music, but it seems that Williams decided to reinstate this brief scene with his music.
This raises the question: just how many tidbits of music are out there in the finished score and on the music tapes? I am hoping that someday this will be revealed.
