Man. I can't believe that Jason didn't do well. I love that recording. I even made my little sister listen to it.

Quo Vadis is one of the few high profile scores that we are still missing. I’m not saying there is not some fantastic stuff unreleased or lost forever, but Quo Vadis has such a legend around it that it should attract even some casual customers. In fact, the only score that has a bigger legend is Caine Mutiny with only scant copies of the LP ever being pressed.

Sure we need Spartacus and Fall of the Roman Empire and Caine Mutiny (well I do anyway), but Quo Vadis has acquired a mystique because of its elusiveness and fragmentary survival of even its LP tracks. All the scores you listed would be great to have, but I think Quo Vadis is better known and much more desirable.

Maybe you could consider a model like the gentleman who gave us Guns of Navarone? I know he personally financed but I hope he broke even on it. Maybe that would work for you guys.

I missed the Cloud Nine release of Mysterious Island. I've been trying to track it down for a few months to no avail. I would love to hear Broughton's take on it after having heard Jason and the Argonauts. Oh well.

I have to agree with Yavar regarding the Sedares El Cid. While the love theme is very well represented in that Koch recording, the action music is very clunky. I have the original album on LP and the Chapter III CD (the LP sounds better, in my opinion), and the action side of things is quite punchy. Given how masterfully Broughton handled the action music in Ivanhoe and the introspective aspects of Julius Caesar, the concept of an Excalibur recording of El Cid makes my mouth water. Unfortunately, it is probably also an impossible dream.

Like Jerry Goldsmith recording Spartacus.

If it is true that the masters for EL CID and QUO VADIS? are forever gone, these would be dream projects in your capable hands, Doug.

I have a related question regarding another Rozsa score. At one point did you not contemplate recording a suite from Rozsa's 1944 score, THE MAN IN HALF MOON STREET? At what stage in development was that project (if my memory is correct) before it was abandoned? Is it possible it will see the light of day in the future?

Lotsa people out there want Quo Vadis. John's said he has some doubts that people can match what Rozsa did on the original recording. The gauntlet is down. I know you can do it!
