There is a company called Allsop with the website
www.allsop.com and they sell an excellent jewel case that is strong enough to step on and you won't crack it! The last time I ordered they were $2.15 each but well worth the investment if it is one you take with you traveling, in the car, or play all the time. These cases use a much higher grade of plastic. You can order them from the website or just call them up.
I went to my local Ace Hardware and found a pocket slotted screwdriver that the thickness was thin enough that it would fit in the opening between the outer and inner case. With a little practice (use some cracked cases to attempt your first couple of trys) you will be able to change over pretty easily.
Just a small aside. On a trip to Wal-Mart I found "Beneath The Twelve Mile Reef" for $1.00. Not a good movie but it was so much fun to watch it with the liner notes from the FSM release and see exactly how Herrmann's wonderful score was placed in the picture. No its not a very good transfer at all but it is worth $1.00. Heh if nothing else I bought a inexpensive DVD case.
