Post subject: | My Sunday Afternoon Intrada Festival! |
Hey folks, Well, I recently received a big batch of Intrada cds in the mail, so I decided to take an entire afternoon to just listen to all of them, from start to finish. First impressions: The Stunt Man/An Unmarried Woman (Frontiere/Conti): Wow, "The Stunt Man" is such a cool score. I love it, especially the "Masada"-like main theme. Wonderful stuff. An Unmarried Woman is a pleasant score, with some very entertaining highlights towards the end. National Geographic (Holdridge): I really enjoyed this cd. Cool performances of the "Wizards and Warriors" theme to bookend the score, a diverse array of colorful ideas in-between. This one will definitely be getting regular spins. Wargames (Rubenstein): Some excellent brassy material here, some wonderful highlights. However, some of the synth stuff wasn't quite my cup of tea... especially that super high-pitched bit in "Tic Tac Toe". Still, a good album overall. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (Phillips): Good fun, an entertaining companion piece to "Battlestar Galactica". The Nightcomers (Fielding): Far and away my favorite score of the bunch. Such rich, complex, intensely involving writing. I found this to be a rather gripping listening experience. Bravo, Mr. Fielding. So there you have my first impressions. Good work guys, thanks for providing all the terrific music! Back at ya later |
