I finally watched this film tonight for the first time. A terrific movie, with a terrific score as well. I admit I've never been a huge Rosenman devotee, but I found A Man Called Horse to be one of his most impressive scores -- very bold and dynamic, with some smooth and adroit integration of Native American music. Very unlike Laurence Rosenthal's more romantic music for the sequel, but excellent nonetheless. I know this score was released on LP back in the 70s, but seems to me a prime candidate for CD. Anyone else have any opinions on this score? |

It's a very impressive film though I found the whole "ritual" scene to be a little graphic and quite dated with the "psychedelic" effects and photography -- and how he "talks" to the female lead in particular! It's one of the few scenes that felt very much like a product of the early '70s as Robert points out. Otherwise a fine film and an excellent DVD as well. |
