I know Jerrold Immel did many music for Dallas (maybe also the main theme ?), because I clearly remember as a not-English-speaking kid seeing his name often in the end credits, as 'Jerrold' resembled the name J.R. to me.

WILLIAM LAVA did many movie scores.

DICK DeBENEDICTIS' (of the Columbo fame) name may not be perhaps forgotten, but still I don't recall any of his music being released. I've recently seen (heard) his recent 2000 Columbo scores and they are still excellent.

British composer CHRISTOPHER GUNNING also comes to mind. He's done many Poirot scores (TV series and many TV films), which could fill 15 CD's of excellent music !

Benjamin Bartlett's WALKING WITH DINOSAURS is one of the greatest scores EVER composed in the last ten years. It towers over most other film scores. His style is similiar to John Scott.
BENJAMIN BARTLETT RULES!

Richard LaSalle His scores for Irwin Allen's CITY BENEATH THE SEA and THE TIME TRAVELERS needs to find a release. That is if the masters exist.

Oliver Nelson His output was primarily for television like THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and IRONSIDE. His television compositions are exquisite. His string writing has a sheen akin to John Barry. His main theme for the film SKULLDUGGERY with Burt Reynolds is a tour de force. A wonderful theme showcasing a myriad of percussion that ends on an orgasmic high.

Johnny Douglas His music for the film CRACK IN THE WORLD is one of the greatest unsung masterpieces of the 60's. Memorable heroic fanfares.
He also wrote additional music for THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS.

I could go on and on . . . Hey! I've been listening to film music for over forty years. I heard a lot of stuff. Yukity Yuk Yuk.

- Les Baxter

Not really obsure because he was/is also a very prominent person outside the film world. But his soundtrack work is limited to B movies.

- Gil Melle

- Billy Goldenberg

- Jaime Mendoza-Nava

- Robert O. Ragland

- Robert Prince

- Elizabeth Lutyens (many works for the concert hall, and eerie work for British horror movies)

- Herman Stein

- Irving Gertz

- Marlin Skiles

- Albert Glasser

They are many other guys.

John Addison. I have fond memories of the vinyl releases of THE AMOROUS ADVENTURES OF MOLL FLANDERS and SLEUTH. Not enough of his material on CD.

Daniele Amfitheatrof. THE DESERT FOX.

Eldon Rathburn. Prolific Canadian composer of documentary music for the National Film Board. Composed some Hollywood scores (Nobody Waved Goodbye).

Louis Applebaum. Another Canadian composer. Documentaries. Concert Hall. Incidental music for Shakespeare (Stratford). Worked in Hollywood, occasionally, beginning in the 1940s. THE STORY OF G.I. JOE. Wrote the definitive analysis of Hugo Friedhofer's THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES.

David Buttolph. PT-109.

Hans Eisler. THE SPANISH MAIN. Would love to see Chandos do an anthology from his Hollywood period.

Robert Farnon. Another Canadian. CAPTAIN HORATIO HORNBLOWER.

Georges Garvarentz. MARCO THE MAGNIFICENT.

Ron Grainer. THE FINEST HOURS.

Sol Kaplan. JUDITH

Frank Skinner. SHENANDOAH. The horror scores released by Marco Polo barely scratch the surface of his contribution to filmmusic.

b.

Amen- I love those lush scores he did for Douglas Sirk Universal potboilers in the 50's and 60's. His score for the Lon Chaney biopic "Man of a Thousand Faces" is excellent. He was one of the few composers at Universal who got credit instead of Gershenson. And while once available on lps, these now languish in Decca's vaults, a real treasure locked up and it's a real shame.

As to an obscure composer, how about Carmen Dragon, who score the 1956 "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"?

Dragon also wrote the score for Edgar G. Ulmer´s bizarre film noir The Strange Woman.

Another underrated composer from the Golden Age is Heinz Roemheld, who adapted classical themes for Ulmer´s The Black Cat, but later wrote also some great western scores, some of them starring Randolph Scott.
