Charlton Heston really was a great actor, inhabiting each role he played giving it life and meaning, dominating the screen and stage, and it is in the latter medium that I remember him. In two remarkable productions here on the London Stage. A mesmerising performance as Captain Queeg in THE CAINE MUTINY, 1985, and with his still beautiful wife Lydia in LOVE LETTERS in 1999. This his last appearance on the London Stage made more memorable because of his insistence, with his wife, that they sign programmes and exchange a few words with everyone clustered around the Stage Door of The Theatre Royal, Haymarket, ignoring the pleas of the car driver that they would be late for the reception at the 'Theatre Restaurant'.
