One of the good things, about globalization, is that it has exposed us to film composers from other cultures that might have been off the radar. Rahman, an Indian (Tamil) film composer, is a composer who has gotten my attention and I listen to his themes, frequently, while doing household chores. (Perhaps the meditative qualities, in some of his music, helps me do these mundane tasks more mindfully. ![]() Are there others, on the forum, who listen to this composer? I would be interested in receiving your recommendations for other recordings worth hearing. BB |

His score for Between Heaven and Earth is quite good. Although I've never seen it available for sale anywhere. ![]() He also contributed opening song to recent Spike Lee's thief movie about 2 years back. Very catchy cue. If only I could remember the name of this movie. Unfortunately I am not familiar with anything else he did. Elizabeth 2 is fine and IMHO Rahman wrote some of the violin solos included in the score but it's rather difficult to guess how much he did and what exactly did Armstrong on this one. NP: Horton Hears a Who - so annoying! ** |

Here's a good one, "The Story of India." http://cdbaby.com/cd/storyofindia Supposedly the music is composed and conducted by Howard Davidson, but the lead in on CD reads "Howard Davidson & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring the music of A.R. Rahman." Either way, it's a fine orchestral score and features lots of the ethnic nuances that likely attracted you to Rahman's work in the first place. CD Baby features pleanty of track samples that are sure to impress, so check it out. ![]() Scorehead |
