Funny you should mention this as as I finally saw this movie for the first time just a few days ago, after having lived with imaginary images in my head for almost twenty years. All I can is that Lionheart wasn't Franklin J. Schaffner's finest hour. The War Lord, it isn't. Although the basic storyline seemed quite promising, the final result is unfortunately dull, flat, seemingly under-budgeted. Gabriel Byrne has quite a good scenes in here, most notably a sort of nocturnal cat and mouse moment between him and Eric Stoltz sensing each other's presence during the abbey scene at the beginning. But that's it. It also looks like the movie was trimmed down after scoring, as several scenes were obviously shortened and the music cut accordingly so, which might be jarring for anyone very familiar with the score. But the music is absolutely great. Too bad there isn't a good movie to go along with it. |

Jerry Goldsmith's music was fantastic!!! Unfortunately, the movie was really really weak. The potential for a great film was there but executed in such an unconvincing way that I pretty much laughed my way through it. The soundtrack feels like it belongs to a different film. RJ |
