In a score that contains musical choices I don't enjoy, such as the overuse of choir, male chorus, rock influences, action scoring as sonic assault, and a grating song, I think Alan Silvestri has written a fine theme for the film's hero, Beowulf. It plays well whether being interpreted by strings, soft resolute woodwinds, or especially by the French horns with tympani. As a fanfare I would think it might have a future in the concert hall. It is quite hummable and I have enjoyed it several times in its various appearances in the score, over the two months it has been part of my collection. The secondary 'seduction theme', with plucked strings, is also quite good. BB |

I couldn't agree more BB, and thought the exact same thing when I first heard this....finally a THEME in a film that I can remember and leave the theater humming! And then there was Roar! from Cloverfield....could it be were moving away from this sound design as score business???? That fanfare is terrific, and its first appearance on the album really caught my attention....thought I put on a Rozsa record by mistake The only misstep in Beowulf for me was the cliched ethnic percussion in the final dragon flight/fight sequence, but the scene was so well put together and exciting, the scoring didn't bother me too much.... |

Annoyingly, this is the first Robert Zemeckis movie I've missed in cinemas since Death Becomes Her - but I'll definitely get the DVD! |

Simply the best soundtrack of 2007. Silvestri is still the best composer out there when it comes to compose a catchy theme and a big orchestral tapestry... |
