Broken Arrow is a masterpiece and an important score in the history of the western genre, (just as the film itself was in its portrayal of native Americans). Funny how Friedhofer contributed to setting the classic sound of westerns and "indian" music with They Died With Their Boots On and was also the one that renewed it ten years or so later.
His themes in Broken Arrow, thanks to his harmonic colors, are anything but the traditionnal "good guys/bad guys" approach and it opened up a whole new trend in scoring for westerns (a style that turns up in most psychological or tragic westerns such as... Warlock!)
In that regard, I must admit that, as much as I love the love theme, it sounds a bit alien to the rest of the score, especially in the triumphant arrangement by Powell that has nothing to do with the stark tone of Friedhofer's writing. But I guess the studio wanted a more upbeat finale, and Powell supplied it !

All I can say is that it is my favorite score, so even if the re-recording falls short of the mark (it does) you still want to have it in your collection.
