Indeed it is. I lost my Dad 26 years ago this June, when I was 25. Dad was 51, my age now. It's a wrench but I always think of him. I'm so sorry to hear this, Doug. |

So sad and so sorry to hear this. My condolences and my deepest sympathy to Mr. Fake and the whole family. 84 years is a blessed age but nevertheless this always comes way too early. |

Truly sorry to read about your loss. Isn't it interesting how the internet works. I've never met you, Doug, nor even had a direct correspondence with you, only group discussions in this forum. I knew you first as just a name on the "Red Dawn" LP (yes, I'm one of the ones who bought that), and then on so much that followed. I've read interviews with you, read you writings here and elsewhere, and from some of those even gotten glimpses into your personal life (your daughters, for instance). And so I went to your site today, more to kill time than anything, and saw your notice of your father's passing. And, despite our never having met, it really hit me. Obviously, I'm not pretending to feel your loss the way you do, but I have a real sense of sadness, and my thoughts turned to my own parents (still living) and the thought that I should call them. Sometimes, I wonder if our internet culture cocoons us, makes us anti-social and more alone in the world. But right now, I'm thinking that maybe, sometimes, it actually builds a new kind of community. Pardon my ramblings. I wish you all the best in this difficult time. I'm going to call my parents now. |

The condolences of strangers offer only just so much real consolation. All the same, Doug, you have an entire community here mourning with you. I suggest you rummage through all those memories. Dredge up great ones to share with your family; listen to their own, to enjoy those you've forgotten about. Family laughter heals. And when the time is right, you'll also know just what music to listen to. |
