Having waded thru a lot of Vangelis non-film albums, disc 3 of this Blade Runner set doesn't seem terribly shocking to me.

I once bought a rare (never released in the US) LP of his called See You Later, which I was disappointed to find was filled with spoken word, weird sounds and goofy songs (ironically, this was the album for which he composed "Memories of Green" -- which was the only reason I bought it of course).

Albums like Albedo 0.39 and The City contained spoken word tracks, while his later 1987 album, Direct, contained the sounds of a baby trying to talk on one track.

So to me this extra Blade Runner disc feels sadly familar.

This arrived and I can tell you, fans would either be ecstatic or disappointed.
Disc 1 is identical as it is a re-issue
Disc 2 features only 44 minutes of unreleased material with NO dialogue!!!
Disc 3 is an unnecessary, but well produced revisiting & remixing of the original Blade Runner music with clever new dialogue.

Overall, it's a nice next step until the complete score gets issued onto a 2CD set. At least DOCTOR TYRRELL'S DEATH, my favorite track, is included here. So, it's not a total bust... and it seems Vangelis is as picky as Goldsmith regarding what he will and will not issue on CD.

Universal Music issued the 3CD set who also allowed Intrada to issue ALIEN, so there is hope, but not this decade. :wink:
