A Bruce Broughton Appreciation Thread

If there's a place to have Broughton threads, this certainly is.

One feature of Broughton's scores I love is his "classical" touch, as displayed in such tracks as "Merry Mayfield", "Patty's Pleasure", "Charmin Armin" (my favorite of these) in Miracle on 34th Street, "Literary Tea" in The Prodigal, and possibly a few others I have ommitted.

I know he has composed concert pieces.
Is any of this work available on CD? I have never seen mention of any such promotional discs, but I may have missed them.
Would such a release be easier to produce than a score release?

Mr Broughton is not just a great film music composer, he obviously is a great composer first-- hence the particular quality of his scores.

I got to see Jerry Goldsmith in concert; I would love to see John Williams in concert as well. The other composer at the top of my concert wish list is Bruce Broughton-- whether film music or concert music.

Mr Bruce Broughton is my true hero. Never met him but he got me the first time ever I heard a score of him: YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (a masterpiece IMO).

Try to get REEL LIFE volume one on Arabesque Records (don't know if this one is still in print anyway)...

You'll find Primer for Malachy from Mr Broughton, a long piece of music written for his new born grand-children.

On the same CD, you'll find Cut Sleeves from Michael Kamen, a very melodic piece. Also contains Rachel Portman, David Raskin, Howard Shore... (this CD is an unknown gem ! - They never did another volume).

I actually just got that cd last week. Very nice, particularly the lengthy Broughton piece and Portman's "For Julian." You can find it at a very good price used on Amazon.

I don't meet that many Frenchmen on these boards, let alone with the same first name. Aren't you on TraxZone? I remember seeing an "Olivier" over there-- I'm not a member though, I've just lurked around a few times.
