I find it amazing that he's still writing some great stuff at his age - glad he hasn't retired, hope he keeps it up. I guess most of his recent output is for foriegn films/italian TV movies? Hey, whatever keeps him writing beautiful music, such as his score to "Nana". (highly recommended) Oh yeah, just added "Fateless" to my want list....

Speaking of Morricone, with the amount of scores that he gets released (can anyone keep track these days?) why hasn't his FATMAN AND LITTLE BOY found it's way to CD? Not even one cue has shown up on any of his compilation albums. By turns it is a subtle and beautiful score with one of his most haunting and memorable themes. With nearly everything that he's done getting a release, how this one has fallen through the cracks is a real shame. Sigh... one of these days, right? ~ Oz |

Amongst Morricone's more recent scores I would definitely recommend both Fateless and even more strongly 72 Metra. That is not to forget some of the wonderful cd's which Rai Trade have been releasing - chief amongst them Cefalonia and La Casa Bruciata. It seems a real shame to me that titles like the aforementioned Days Of Heaven and others like 2 Mules For Sister Sara, Orca, Guns For San Sebastian to name but a few have really only received poor quality cd releases. I still wonder why Varese has not seen fit to re-release Red Sonja as one of their limited releases - surely its a cert that this thing would sell out in a short time. |
