Sign me in!! This one is way up in my top 10 favorite film scores. In many ways it's the quintessential Herrmann score. And as much as I enjoy Herrmann's original LP program, I wouldn't mind an expanded release restoring the incredibly poignant choral measures, oddly dropped from the album, when the narrative returns to the seventies and whe see Cliff Robertson standing in front of the huge tomb. And the a cappela women chorus when Sandra explores the mansion and sees the portrait has to be the shortest and most haunting thing Bernard Herrmann ever wrote. IMHO. |
