McFarland books have a reputation for being very high quality books. Very nicely bound. I believe they do not do the same print runs as more mainstream titles. You will find subject matter not dealt with in detail anywhere else. I have quite a number of their titles, and enjoy them immensely. Well written and researched, and the subject matter is dealt with in many cases in a very in depth manner. Essential to anyone's library that is interested in a particular topic. A couple I really cherish is "Keep Watching the Skies", a 2-volume set by Bill Warren dealing with American science fiction films from 1950-1962 and "Fearing the Dark", the film career of Val Lewton. Wonderful, wonderful books. For you western film buffs, they also released "Riding the Video Range: The Rise and Fall of Westerns on TV". Pricey? Yes. Essential? Definitely. You are not going to find better quality books and writing anywhere. |

I so want that book! (I think fans owe McFarland and Co. a big debt - their books are pricey but they're worth it!) |
