Horror scores are my favorite! Random thoughts... I grew up on horror/fantasy music. Watching/listening to Bernard Herrmann scored Twilight Zone episodes, then to see JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS saying "Is there a record of this?" Then I saw Hammer's DRACULA and was blown out of the water by James Bernard's theme. I thought that the score from BRAM'S STOKER'S DRACULA captured the "Hammer sound" of James Bernard. Jerry Goldsmith's THE OMEN is a true horror score, but I think Christopher Young's score to HELLRAISER is even scarier! The Italians have done horror pretty good - Goblin's SUSPIRIA, and DEEP RED are excellent score (albeit DEEP RED is a Tubular Bells derivitate). I'm a big fan of TENEBRE but it's more Giallo which is kind of a style of it's own. |
