The animated Horner is the best Horner, IMO! |

Not really an animated feature, but perhaps related because it was based on a kids comic book, Horner's Caspar is one his easily likable works. In turns jazzy and melodic, touching and humerous, even Elmanish at times, yet idiomatic Horner. |

Balto is also my favorite animated Horner score. Heritage of Wolf makes me howl. WOOOOOOOOOOO. WOOOOOOOOO. (I'm a wolf!) In this scene, the music just takes over! I reccomend watching the film just for this scene. Also, check out Central Park if you can... Another good animated score by Horner is his score for Pagemaster. -V |

The first AN AMERICAN TAIL and LAND BEFORE TIME for me. Both are gorgeous scores. Also wanted to take a moment and give credit to the late, great, ever-brilliant Greig McRitchie here. In his later years he was probably more famous as Basil Poledouris's orchestrator, but his work with Horner was downright magical. These two scores, GLORY, ALIENS, WILLOW, KRULL, etc. GM helped create the Horner sound, that dense, shimmering, room-rocking sound. Glorious stuff. |
