Christopher Palmer wrote that Dimitri Tiomkin's music had the effect of polarizing people's opinions: people loved it or REALLY didn't love it.
My experience of modern (post 1990) film music and its criticism is limited, so I'm only inclined to guess that Danny Elfman is the new Tiomkin (in regards to the aspect I name above) since I have one of the opinions above and have heard only the other opinion stated.
Any other nominees?
