I remember finally getting my pressing of this in the summer of 1980 after months of delays due to problems with the pressing by JVC and being terribly let down, not only for the problems Doug mentioned with the highs and lows in the sound, but with the criminal omissions of some major cues (specifically the music over the scene at the train terminal in Chicago -"The phone booth"). NORTH BY NORTHWEST is one of my favorite Herrmann scores, and a favorite movie, period. I picked up the Unicorn cd later, but didn't bother with Varese reissue of Starlog's effort. In retrospect, I think their Laurie Johnson FIRST MEN IN THE MOON was much better. |
